Science / Social Studies

Our schedule for studying Science and Social Studies is somewhat flexible to allow our concentration to be Reading and Math. Most of our Science and Social Studies work will be done at school. The majority of Science and Social Studies grades will consist of projects, in-class participation, games, etc. Some topics will be taught on an on-going basis throughout the year. Our tentative schedule of topics to be studied for the year is as follows:

  • Evergreen vs. Deciduous
  • Needs/Wants, Goods/Services
  • Benjamin Franklin
  • George Washington
  • George Washington Carver / Black History Month
  • Abrham Lincoln
  • President’s Day

Spring Session:

  • Map Skills (Equator, Sphere, Washington D.C., Bristol, Continents, Oceans, etc.)
  • Symbols of the United States
  • The Sun
  • The Earth/The Earth’s Rotation
  • Natural Resources
  • Recycling/Reducing/Reusing/Pollution
  • Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, and Independence Day
  • Plants and Animals (Life cycles, parts, etc.)
  • The State of Virginia
