Accelerated Reader (AR) is a motivational program to encourage students to read. Students earn points by passing online quizzes for AR books that they have read. Your child may check out AR books at our library, at the public library, or elsewhere. ALL BOOKS ARE NOT AR BOOKS. To be an AR book, it must have the accompanying online quiz. The AR books that they read are based upon their individual reading level. There will be a set number/percentage of books that students must read in order to meet their AR goals. Students are rewarded for meeting goals set.
When our classroom AR program begins, we will use “easy” read books. Often students find that they can read the book, but find difficulty either passing a test or taking the test due to computer abilities. As your child uses AR more and more, this will not be a problem. As their reading abilities increase, they will have the opportunity to read more difficult books.
